In France, searches are underway at the LFP office and the president`s house in a corruption case. The French financial prosecutor`s office did this as part of an investigation into a complaint about a deal concluded with the investment fund CVC.
The searches are being carried out at the headquarters of the French Professional Football League (LFP), which governs Ligue 1 and Ligue 2, at the home of LFP head Vincent Labrune and at the CVC offices.
Previously, the fund acquired 13% of the capital of Ligue 1 for 1. 5 billion euros. An investigation was launched on July 16, 2024, on charges of misuse of public funds, active and passive corruption of a public official, and unlawful receipt of benefits.
During negotiations between CVC and LFP, it was agreed that the bankers and lawyers who advised LFP would receive a commission upon completion of the transaction.
A budget of 37. 5 million euros was allocated: 12 million euros for each of the two banks involved in the negotiations, and 5 million euros for the law firm as a performance fee.
It was also decided to give 8. 5 million euros in bonuses to Ligue 1 executives, a significant share of which was received by LFP president Labrune. Investigators will have to find out at what point the decision on bonuses was made and on whose initiative.
The LFP President, who selected the bankers and lawyers involved in the deal, also voted for a very large increase in his salary, which the senators noted in their report.
