FIA President Mohammed bin Sulayem has resigned from his daily work in the management of Formula 1.


Since Bin Sulayem took over as FIA President in December 2021, he has led a major restructuring of the Federation and Formula 1.


On Monday, Bin Sulayem notified the teams that he was stepping back from his day-to-day involvement in Formula 1 affairs. FIA Director of Open Wheel Championships Nicholas Tombasis will be responsible for matters related to the operational activities of F1.


As part of a management restructuring process, Tombasis was given enhanced powers last month and Steve Nielsen was appointed sporting director.


Ben Sulayem will continue to be involved in high-level issues and strategic development issues. But the main contact person for teams in case of need to resolve various types of issues will be Tombasis.


In recent months, bin Sulayem`s relationship with both F1 owners Liberty Media and most Formula 1 teams has deteriorated sharply.
