Andrew Shovlin said that Mercedes underestimated the galloping ahead of the start of the 2022 season.

At Silverstone, ground clearance was closer to more normal values, and we encountered this phenomenon. But we knew little about it and its causes.


So before Barcelona it was important to understand how to work with the car, what are the problems, how to eliminate galloping. At that moment, the best thing that could be done was to raise the car and sacrifice speed. That car was a much earlier version of the one that came to the first race. As for the problem. . . In Barcelona we thought: We are not the fastest, but we do not think that the situation is bad.


After all, we expected that we would find speed by upgrading the car to Bahrain. The problem turned out to be that after that galloping reached a new level. For the most part, efficiency gains failed as the car had to be raised even higher and the bouncing became impossible to get rid of, ` said Mercedes` chief race engineer.
